A Glimpse into our Anand Believe in Me Centre

  • 11 Jan, 2023

The Anand Believe in Me centre was inaugurated on the 31st of July, 2022. It is located near the largest landfill in Kolkata which is home to 71 families. LWB Foundation is now working with the children living at the dumpsite, and we are committed to giving these wonderful kids the chance to learn and better their futures.

Currently, there are 19 students enrolled at the centre. The centre aims to teach children eligible to study in Lower Nursery to Grade 5.

Understandably, there was a lot of chaos when the children first arrived at the centre, but soon they settled and started to play with the toys. The children soon began to see what fun they could have at the centre!

Soon, the children started waiting for the clock to strike 3 in the afternoon so that they could rush to the centre for their daily dose of learning. Janaki arrives at the centre with his bag so that he can have his own day at the centre!

Parvati, the diligent student, is learning how to write numbers.

Tulsi has been attending the centre for almost four months now and is learning fast. She is especially good at writing and has great focus.

Our students are also learning about India’s rich culture and heritage. Here, Apoorva is seen showing off a painting of India’s national flag that he has learnt to draw at the centre.

When the children at the centre are not studying, they love painting. Few of the children are lovely painters and enjoy showing off their skill. Nilesh is one of the students who enjoys painting.

Apart from regular education, the children at the Anand Believe in Me Centre are also being taught yoga. A few volunteers come down to the centre once every month to teach them yoga and meditation.

An age-appropriate good touch and bad touch session was arranged for the students at the Anand Believe in Me Centre. We have planned for several such sessions over the next one year to sensitize the children on the subject.

Monthly Parent-teacher Meeting is one of the important activities at the centre. PTM is a great opportunity for both the teacher and parents to work for the betterment of the child. It helps to know and work for the child’s performance.

We hope you enjoyed a peek into our Anand Believe in Me Centre. What a joy to be able to give these children a respite from the harsh realities of life at the landfill — and a great head start on learning!
