Meet Uma

Uma is a 6-year-old girl who has found a second home at our Anand Believe In Me (ABIM) center. Uma’s life has been tough, but her story is one of strength and new beginnings.

When Uma was just a baby, her mother abandoned her and her big brother. Sometimes, their mother would come back for short visits. These moments were like little bursts of sunshine for Uma, but they never lasted long. Each time her mom left again, it broke Uma’s heart.

Now, Uma lives with her grandma and her brother. Life is hard for them. Every morning, before the sun comes up, their grandma has to go sell vegetables.  Uma and her elder brother are left alone all day, often with nothing to eat. Their father used to try to help them, but now their grandma won’t let him.

This is where our Anand Believe In Me (ABIM) Center came into Uma’s life. When we heard about her situation, we knew we had to help. We helped Uma to join our center, and it’s changed everything for her.

At ABIM, Uma’s days are now full of learning, play, and care. She comes to our center early in the evening for classes. She gets love and attention from her teacher, staffs and other students of our Center.

Uma is learning wholeheartedly at ABIM and discovering that she is smart and capable. She is making friends and learning to trust others apart from her brother and grandfather. Uma has found a new kind of family here.

The change in Uma is great to see. Her smile, once rare, now lights up the room. She’s starting to believe in herself and dream about her future. Uma’s story shows how a little support can make a big difference in a child’s life.
