Imagine growing up without a family, without someone to celebrate your birthdays, help with your homework, or comfort you when you’re scared. This is the reality for thousands of children living in institutions across India. While children’s homes provide shelter, they can never replace the warmth and love of a family.<\/p>\n

At the same time, there are parents out there kind, caring individuals who would love to nurture a child but may not know that foster care is even an option. That\u2019s where family-based care, especially foster care, becomes a life-changing solution. It\u2019s about giving children not just a roof over their heads, but a home where they are loved, supported, and encouraged to dream.<\/p>\n

Why Family-Based Care?<\/strong>
\nA family is more than just a place to stay , it\u2019s the foundation for a child\u2019s emotional and social growth. Studies have shown that children raised in loving homes grow up to be healthier, happier, and more successful compared to those who spend their childhood in institutions. That\u2019s why India\u2019s Juvenile Justice Act (2015) promotes family-based alternatives like foster care and adoption. Programs like Mission Vatsalya reinforce this vision, emphasizing the need for every child to grow up in a secure and loving environment.<\/p>\n

LWB Foundation\u2019s Mission: Bringing Children and Families Together<\/strong>
\nAt LWB Foundation, we believe that no child should have to grow up alone. For the past four years, we\u2019ve been working in Odisha and West Bengal, hand in hand with government authorities, to make foster care a reality.<\/p>\n

Our journey has taken us to the heart of communities in Bhadrak, Dhenkanal, Kendrapara (Odisha), and North & South 24 Parganas (West Bengal). Along the way, we have:
\n\u2714 Trained over 100 families to become foster parents.
\n\u2714 Helped families complete the foster care application process with the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU).
\n\u2714 Received official permission from district authorities to place children in loving homes.
\n\u2714 Supported the transition of children from institutional care to family-based care.<\/p>\n

How We Make Foster Care Happen<\/strong>
\nFoster care is more than just placing a child with a family. It\u2019s about preparing both the child and the foster parents for a lifelong bond. That\u2019s why LWB Foundation works closely with District Child Protection Officers (DCPOs), Child Welfare Committees (CWCs), and Child Care Institutions (CCIs) to make sure every foster placement is safe and successful.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s how we do it<\/strong><\/p>\n

  1. Finding the Right Families: We reach out to communities to identify loving, responsible families who are open to fostering.<\/li>\n
  2. Helping Children Transition: We work with CCIs to find children who are eligible for foster care and help them adjust to family life.<\/li>\n
  3. Home Visits & Background Checks: We personally visit every potential foster family to ensure they are prepared to provide a nurturing home.<\/li>\n
  4. Training & Guidance: Foster parenting comes with responsibilities, so we provide training on child care, emotional support, and legal requirements.<\/li>\n
  5. Making It Official: We assist families with all the paperwork and approvals required to become registered foster parents.<\/li>\n
  6. Supporting Families & Children : Our job doesn\u2019t end when a child is placed. We continue to check in, offer counseling, and ensure the child is thriving.<\/li>\n
  7. Welcome Ceremony: When a child finally steps into their new home, we make sure they feel welcomed, celebrating their arrival with a special Welcome Ceremony. Because every child deserves to feel wanted and loved.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
